Pin It! | Hutchinson MN photographer

October 18th, 2011

Oh Pinterest, I’m quite fond of you. You’ve allowed me to be a *teensy* bit more organised. You hold all my ideas in one spot, rather than hundreds (no, I’m not kidding) of torn out pages of magazines. You keep track of the picture’s source so when I want to find out where to purchase it, make it or whatever – you show me.

Since I’m such a visual person, this land of never ending pictures and ideas is pretty cool. And since I like to incorporate a little bit of my style & personality in my business, I wanted to use Pinterest. I’ve created various Boards (think of a Board like a “lookbook” — a source of ideas) to give you some inspiration for wardrobe & makeup ideas.

You do need an invitation to create your own Boards and Pin items (Pinning is like tearing out that magazine page for later reference) but you don’t need to join if you just want to take a peek around. If you want an invitation, just ask me and I’ll send you one.

I hope you enjoy the ideas I add to my Pinterest boards!

Rescues and Runways Fashion Show | Hutchinson Minnesota photographer

September 26th, 2011

Animals have always had a very special spot in my heart.  Being an only child and living in the country where there were no neighborhood kids to play with, many of my memories are playing with our numerous cats.  We lived on a farm and it was not uncommon to have 10-20 cats at a time which were all very well fed and along with the cats was my best pal, my dog Duke.  Fortunately for me (maybe not so much for the cats) there were always a couple of cats that didn’t care if I dressed them up, held them like babies or put them in my doll buggy.

So with my love for animals, I’ve found myself in the past year bringing 2 homeless cats to live with us (past story on one of those here).  I realize that this has to stop as I know unfortunately I just can’t save them all (not on my own anyway).  Well last week, there was a stray cat outside our window which was annoying one of our cats.  My husband went outside to pet it (which is bad news because that means this cat would have extremely good chances of making it inside the house, and if that happens, that means the cat won’t be making it back outside again and would live a cushy life as a housecat).  Well this cat wasn’t tame and immediately ran when it heard the house door open.  We didn’t see the cat again, until the next morning.  It was laying on the road infront of our house and was hit by a car.  You see, THAT is the exact reason that I will someday be the crazy cat lady.   I will have a house full of cats because I want to save each and every one of them from some awful ending.  Sigh…..

Sorry to leave you with that so let’s change this up and do something for the ones we can help!

I’m very excited to be getting set for year four of the annual Holiday Pet Portraits, a fundraiser I have been doing for the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter here in Hutchinson, MN.  Sessions will be 11/11/11, 11/12/11 and 11/14/11.  I’ll post more details later but I wanted to let you know that this year you are able to pre-register for the 2011 Holiday Pet Portraits at another fundraiser for the Shelter which will be happening this Saturday, October 1st at the Hutchinson Mall.

Maurices is holding a fashion show starting at 12pm, with a silent auction beginning at 11am and lasting until 2pm.  Rescues & Runways  is a great opportunity to see the latest in fashion while helping out animals that need our help.  I hope to see many of you there and to pre-register for your pet’s 2011 holiday portrait!

Voted most photogenic – Hutchinson, Minnesota photographer

August 26th, 2011

Do high school seniors still vote on “most pretty/handsome”, “best storyteller”, etc.?  When I was a senior, we did.  And I got my name etched forever in our yearbook for……

BEST JUNKER.

Oh yes.  I was the proud (cough, cough) driver of a green Ford Granada.  4-doors.  AM radio.  Squeaked going over bumps.  The passenger side seat (bench seat mind you) wasn’t bolted down, so the front passenger was mostly a backseat passenger when taking off quickly.  Well, as quickly as this car would accelerate.  Which wasn’t fast.  At all.  It was, well, something.  :)    I tried finding a picture of it somewhere and came across this one — and since I’m kind of on an embarrassing streak I figured what the heck.  Yes, that’s me – and hey, kids play dress up!

So now that this is out in the open, back to being photogenic.  There was a recent voting of Hollywood’s most photogenic celebrities of all time.  Not too much of a surprise for number 1 was Elizabeth Taylor.  Here was the rundown:

1.) Elizabeth Taylor- 72%

2.) Jennifer Aniston – 69%

3.) David Beckham – 66%

4.) Megan Fox - 61%

5.) Audrey Hepburn – 58%

6.) Marlon Brando – 53%

7.) Angelina Jolie - 52%

8.) Marilyn Monroe - 49%

9.) Sophia Loren – 41%

10.) James Dean – 38%

Quite a few “old school” celebrities in there.  I love the style of old Hollywood glamour images – they are just so classic, beautiful, and timeless.  I find that a lot of my favorite images I shoot have similar lighting, lots of dramatic shadowing like the image of Marilyn Monroe.  Ahhh, so gorgeous!’

So — what did YOU get voted as in high school (perhaps it’s better not to be voted as anything!).

Warm Fuzzies | Hutchinson, MN photographer

June 1st, 2011

Who can resist the cuteness? And really — even if you’re not a cat lover, how could you not say, “awww!” to this cuteness?

Happy Wednesday!
